New Laptop Spec

Postby Lathe » Tue Aug 05, 2014 6:04 pm

I am relatively new to Revit and am looking to buy a laptop with reasonable spec for a reasonable price. I would really appreciate any thoughts/advice from someone who knows what they are talking about! I have been looking at the following spec

Vortex IV with 17 inch 1920 x 1080 display
Intel Core i7 Quad Core Mobile Processor i7-4810MQ (2.80GHz) 6MB
NVIDIA Quadro K1100M - 2GB DDR5 Video RAM - DirectX 11
240GB KINGSTON V300 SSD, SATA 6 Gb (450MB/R, 450MB/W)

Sounds very good to me. You have the essentials- Quad Core, workstation-grade graphics and 16Gb RAM.

In my opinion his spec will serve you well for some time with Revit- nice price too.

That should do the job nicely.

I'd also like to point out that Revit only relies heavily on the video card for rendering. We use Lumion for rendering, and Lumion makes much better use of GeForce series cards as opposed to the Quadro (which it hates). If you're planning on doing the bulk of your rendering within Revit itself, then stick with the Quadro. If not, and you plan on using your laptop for other stuff (like gaming) the GeForce is the way to go.
